News Updates for July 27-August 02, 2023

The Tolono Public Library’s annual Used Book Sale is coming up! This year’s sale is from August 3rd through August 6th. At this time, we are still accepting donations for Adult Fiction, Children’s, and Young Adult materials as well as media such as video games, CDs, and DVDs. Please make sure that all donated materials are new or like new and from a non-smoking household. If you have any questions about the Book Sale or donations, please call the Library (217-485-5558).

Programs and Events This Week

STEM Explorers: Earthquake / Thursday, July 27th, 4:00—5:30 p.m. Stop by the Library to design and construct a miniature building, and to see how it stands up to different strengths of earthquake! We’ll also talk about engineering, and what special tips and tricks real-life builders use to make sure the buildings they design are earthquake-safe. Play clothes encouraged. Recommended Ages: 6-11.

Outdoor Storytime / Tuesday, August 1st, 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. Come to the Library for a fun story time filled with stories, songs, and silly rhymes. After story time, your little ones can read or tell a story themselves to Cooper the therapy dog! Recommended Ages: 0-5.

Coffee Talk / Wednesday, August 2nd, 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Twice a month, seniors are welcome to visit the Library for coffee and light refreshments in the company of other seniors in the community! This week, we have special guest Taylor Ferguson from Kirby Senior Life Solutions, giving a planned workshop about self-care. Recommended Ages: Senior.

Upcoming Events

Kids Take & Make: Ladybug Windcatchers / Thursday, August 3rd, All Day. Pick up a take & make kit from the Library to build and decorate your own colorful ladybug windcatcher! First come, first served. Recommended Ages: 6-11.

Used Book Sale / Thursday, August 3rd – Sunday, August 6th, Library Hours. Come to the Library during open hours and browse our selection of used books for sale! All donated funds will go towards purchasing new materials for the Library.

Animals Ahead

Coles County Animal Shelter is coming to the library on Saturday, September 16th with a lovable group of cats and dogs that are available for adoption! Meet the cats in our pop-up Cat Café, where you can read a book and enjoy light refreshments while you snuggle up with adoptable cats. Then, pet and play with some adorable adoptable dogs in our yard. We’ll also have cat-and-dog-themed games, crafts, and puzzles. Coles County Animal Shelter is accepting donations of pet items like toys, treats, collars/leashes, linens, and cleaning supplies, a complete list of which can be found below. Donations are encouraged but not required.
