The Page Turners Book Club will meet again for November! Join other readers at the Tolono Library to chat about a novel over light refreshments. No registration necessary. Kids Craft Time: Ghost & Pumpkin Windsocks / Thursday, October 12th, 3:30—5:30 p.m. Get ready for spooky season with these decorative windsocks! Recommended Ages: 6-11.

Teen Lounge / Thursday, October 12th, 6:00—7:00 p.m. Come and let us know what you’d like to see happen at the Library! Is there a craft you’d like? A game night you want to attend? Chat with us over pizza and video games about what you think the Library should have! Recommended Ages: 12-18.

Friday the 13th Escape Room / Friday, October 13th, 4:30—6:30 p.m. Boo! A spooky ghost is haunting the Library, and it’s up to you to make it stop! Groups will be sent in to try their hand at ghostbusting by solving various puzzles and unlock a delicious box of candy. Four 30-minute time slots available. Limited Space. Ballet Folklorico Mitotiani / Saturday, October 14th, 3:00—3:45 p.m. Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the Library with Ballet Folklorico Mitotiani, who will perform dances from multiple regions of Mexico! You’ll get to practice the dances yourself, try on Mexican ballet skirts, and ask questions about types of dances from Mexico’s different regions. Recommended Ages: 6-11.

Children’s Storytime / Tuesday, October 17th, 10:00—10:30 a.m. Come to the Library for a fun story time filled with stories, songs, and silly rhymes. Recommended Ages: 0-5.

Play Group with Friends / Tuesday, October 17th, 10:30—11:00 a.m. Bring your children for a playdate at the Library while you enjoy conversation with other parents and caregivers in the community. Recommended Ages: 0-5.

Illinois Libraries Present: Food, Family, and Folktales: A Conversation with Grace Lin (via Zoom) / Tuesday, October 17th, 7:00—8:00 p.m. Join Newbery and Caldecott honoree and New York Times bestselling Grace Lin for an engaging conversation about her journey to become an award-winning author and illustrator. Learn about her latest middle grade book, Chinese Menu: The History, Myths, and Legends Behind Your Favorite Foods, a beautifully written full-color book that explores the whimsical myths and stories behind your favorite American Chinese food, and learn how you can draw your own stories. Coffee Talk / Wednesday, October 18th, 9:00—10:00 a.m. Twice a month, seniors are welcome to visit the Library for coffee and light refreshments in the company of other seniors in the community! Recommended Ages: Senior.

STEAMers: Pumpkin “Carving” / Wednesday, October 18th, 10:30—11:00 a.m. Come put on your thinking cap at the Library for an activity that’s full of science, learning, and fun! This week, we’re “carving” pumpkins and talking about how plants grow. Recommended Ages: 0-5.

LEGO® Club / Wednesday, October 18th, 3:30—5:00 p.m. Come build a creative LEGO® design at the Library! All materials will be provided, you just bring the imagination. Recommended Ages: 6-11.

Upcoming Programs

STEM Explorers: Candy Chromatography / Thursday, October 19th, 4:00—5:30 p.m. Do you ever ask yourself why some candies of the same type are different colors? Stop by the Library to conduct chromatography tests on Halloween candies and learn what makes them the colors they are. We’ll also determine once and for all whether you can really “taste the rainbow” or whether most candies are colored to make them more fun. Recommended Ages: 6-11.

Adult Craft N’ Chat: Fabric Pumpkins / Friday, October 20th, 5:30—7:00 p.m. Get in the holiday spirit with these decorative fabric pumpkins. They look great as trick-or-treating decorations or on the shelf all autumn long. Limited space. Please register online or by calling the Library. Recommended Ages: 18+.

The IDEA Zone / Saturday, October 21st, 1:00—3:30 p.m. Come to the Library and bring your designs to life in the IDEA Zone! We have a variety of materials, supplies, and equipment for you to use, including a Cricut, 3D Printer, sewing machine, button maker, and glue guns as well as fabric, paper, paint, and miscellaneous craft supplies. Use our materials or bring your own! A signed user agreement must be completed by the time of the event. A copy of this agreement can be found on our website [HERE] or by visiting the Library.
