Programs and Events This Week

STEM Explorers: CSI – Solve a Library Crime / Thursday, November 2nd, 4:00—5:30 p.m. Someone has broken into the library and stolen a book—and they’re hiding among us! It’s up to you to find the culprit. We’ll work together using real-life forensic techniques like fingerprinting, handwriting analysis, and dental evidence to solve this crime. Recommended Ages: 6-11.

Free Medical Screenings with IMSS / Friday, November 3rd, 5:00—7:00 p.m. The Illini Medical Screening Society will be at the Library to conduct free screenings that determine risk for obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. Drop by any time to have your free screening.

Page Turners Book Club / Saturday, November 4th, 2:00—3:00 p.m. Join other readers at the Library to discuss “Demon Copperhead” by Barbara Kingsolver. Light refreshments are provided. No registration necessary. Recommended Ages: 18+.

Children’s Storytime / Tuesday, November 7th, 10:00—10:30 a.m. Come to the Library for a fun story time filled with stories, songs, and silly rhymes. Recommended Ages: 0-5.

Play Group with Friends / Tuesday, November 7th, 10:30—11:00 a.m. Bring your children for a playdate at the Library while you enjoy conversation with other parents and caregivers in the community. Recommended Ages: 0-5.

Chair Yoga / Tuesday, November 7th, 1:30—3:00 p.m. Come to the Library to enjoy gentle, non-strenuous yoga in a group setting. We will be primarily sitting in chairs, with some standing using the chairs for support, but all stretches performed can be adjusted to individual participants’ comfort, activity level, and accessibility needs. Recommended Ages: 18+.

Project READ Information Session / Wednesday, November 8th, 6:00—7:00 p.m. Interested in becoming a tutor or know of a student looking for a tutor? Drop by the Library for an informal information session about Project READ! Project READ connects tutors with students learning reading, basic math, and English. Recommended Ages: 18+.

Illinois Libraries Present: A Taste of Love with Maya-Camille Broussard (via Zoom) / Wednesday, November 8th, 7:00—8:00 p.m. Join Maya Camille Broussard, star of Netflix’s Bake Squad, owner of Chicago based Justice of the Pies, and cookbook author, for a demo from her kitchen via Zoom. Just in time for Thanksgiving, Chef Maya-Camille will share her love of pie, stories of those that inspired her, and tips and tricks to help you make the perfect pie. Registration required.

Kids Craft Time: Scrapbooking & Zine Making / Thursday, November 9th, 3:30—5:30 p.m. Zines—scrapbooked pamphlets circulated among friends—have been used for almost a century to tell stories and build community. Stop by the Library to put together your own! Recommended Ages: 6-11.

Teen Lounge / Thursday, November 9th, 6:00—7:00 p.m. Come and let us know what you’d like to see happen at the Library! Is there a craft you’d like? A game night you want to attend? Chat with us over pizza and video games about what you think the Library should have! Recommended Ages: 12-18.
