News Updates for July 06-12, 2023

Have you signed up for the Summer Reading Program yet? There’s still time! You’ll receive a gift just for enrolling, and all participants have a chance to win the grand prize in their age group. Kids can win a karaoke machine, teens can win a backpack full of adventure supplies, and adults can win a basket of book-themed goodies. Don’t miss out! The Summer Reading Program ends on Saturday, August 5th.

New Furniture

We’re so excited to share that our Adult and Young Adult areas got an upgrade over the weekend! The massive study tables and the long sofa have been replaced with cozy study booths and comfy lounge chairs. We hope this encourages our patrons to settle down to study and read in greater comfort. We have lowered the online catalog station to be accessible for everyone! And by reducing the number of computer cubicles, patrons have more space to browse the display areas. There are more exciting changes still to come. Please stop by and see the upgrades.

Programs and Events This Week

Kids Craft Time: Dinosaur Terrariums / Thursday, July 6th, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. You don’t need to travel back to the Jurassic to adopt a pet dinosaur—you can get one at the Library! Choose a glow-in-the-dark dinosaur and design a terrarium for it to live in. Recommended Ages: 6-11.

Plant Swap / Friday, July 7th, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Stop by the Library to pot one of several varieties of easy-to-keep-alive houseplants to take home! Or, if you already have a green thumb, bring cuttings from your own plants to swap with neighbors. You’ll also be able to ask questions about plant care, propagation, and quick fixes for ailing houseplants. Recommended Ages: 18+.

Outdoor Storytime / Tuesday, July 11th, 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. Come to the Library for a fun story time filled with stories, songs, and silly rhymes. After story time, your little ones can read or tell a story themselves to Cooper the therapy dog! Recommended Ages: 0-5.

Switch Crew / Wednesday, July 12th, 3:30—5:00 p.m. Stop by the Library to unwind and play popular Nintendo Switch games with good company. While you wait your turn to play, we’ll have other activities for you to try out! Recommended Ages: 6-18.

Upcoming Programs and Events

Summer Saturdays in the Park: Find Your Voice / Saturday, July 15, 10:00 – 12:00 p.m. This summer, it’s time to “Find Your Voice” by reading and sharing stories, expressing yourself, and sparking change! The Savoy Rec Center and the Tolono Library will be at Colbert Park in Savoy for summer fun. Kim Sanford, storyteller extraordinaire from Spurlock Museum, will be sharing stories with us. Kids will be able to enjoy a storywalk, go on a scavenger hunt, and grab a free book from the Tolono Library! All ages are welcome!
