The Library will be closed Monday, September 4th for Labor Day.

September is National Library Card Sign Up Month! Now is the time to get signed up for a library card and discover all of the books, programs, and services that Tolono Public Library District has to offer. Get the word out about the library. When you bring a friend to sign up for a library card, both you and your friend are eligible for great prizes!

  • Kids (0-11): You and your friend can each choose a prize from our prize treasure chest!
  • Teens: You and your friend will each be entered into a drawing to win a matching set of folding bungee cord chairs!
  • Adults: You and your friend will each be entered into a drawing for an Applebee’s gift card!

Programs and Events This Week

Page Turners Book Club / Saturday, September 2nd, 2:00—3:00 p.m. Join other readers at the Library to discuss “Killers of the Flower Moon: the Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI” by David Grann. Light refreshments are provided. No registration necessary. Recommended Ages: 18+.

Outdoor Storytime / Tuesday, September 5th, 10:00—10:30 a.m. Come to the Library for a fun story time filled with stories, songs, and silly rhymes. Recommended Ages: 0-5.

Play Group with Friends / Tuesday, September 5th, 10:30—11:00 a.m. Bring your children for a playdate at the Library while you enjoy conversation with other parents and caregivers in the community. Recommended Ages: 0-5.

Coffee Talk / Wednesday, September 6th, 9:00—10:00 a.m. Twice a month, seniors are welcome to visit the Library for coffee and light refreshments in the company of other seniors in the community! This month, we have guest speaker Eli Imlay from the Champaign County Humane Society discussing common myths related to companion animals and what to do in case of pet emergencies. Recommended Ages: Senior.

STEAMers: Music Makers / Wednesday, September 6th, 10:30—11:00 a.m. Come put on your thinking cap at the Library for an activity that’s full of science, learning, and fun! This week, we are designing and building our own music makers, and exploring what makes sound. Recommended Ages: 0-5.

LEGO® Club / Wednesday, September 6th, 3:30—5:00 p.m. Come build a creative LEGO® design at the Library! All materials will be provided, you just bring the imagination. Recommended Ages: 6-11.

Illinois Libraries Present: The Power of Story with Colson Whitehead (via Zoom) / Wednesday, September 6th, 7:00—8:00 p.m. Kicking off our third season, we are thrilled to welcome two-time Pulitzer Prize winning author Colson Whitehead to our Illinois libraries. His highly anticipated latest novel, Crook Manifesto, is a darkly funny tale of a city under siege, but also a sneakily searching portrait of the meaning of family. Via Zoom. Registration required.

STEM Explorers: Cardboard Fort Architects / Thursday, September 7th, 4:00—5:30 p.m. Stop by the Library to build a life-size fort with your friends using cardboard and blankets. We’ll talk about tricks real-life architects use to keep their buildings standing up! Recommended Ages: 6-11.

Among Us in the Library / Friday, September 8th, 4:30—6:30 p.m. There’s an imposter in the Library! Come by the Library to play Among Us in real life. Among Us is a popular video game featuring the crew of a spaceship completing tasks to maintain the ship, but someone among them is an imposter trying to sabotage their efforts and pick them off one by one. Complete all your tasks and find the imposter before they find you. Kids of all ages and their families welcome!
