The Used Book Sale is happening this week at the library! October 12-17 during our open hours, you can find a wide selection of like-new used books that you can add to your personal collection for a low price. As always, we have a myriad of materials including a signed copy of Villa Coco by Andrew Sean Greer, London Falling: A Mysterious Death in a Gilded City and a Family’s Search for Truth by Patrick Radden Keefe—currently on the New York Times Best Seller List, popular books such as The God of the Woods by Liz Moore, as well as several cookbooks including many by The Pioneer Woman: Ree Drummond. And don’t forget the kids! Want a fun trick-or-treat gift that isn’t candy? Or it’s never too early to start thinking about stocking stuffers and Christmas gifts! We have the newest Dog Man book: Dog Man: Big Jim Believes by Dav Pilkey, the popular Stellaluna by Janell Cannon, as well as several board books for the little ones. As always, our book sale is a by-donation and on-your-honor set up. There will be a red box where, after you shop, you can drop what you believe to be a fair price for your purchases. All funds raised by the purchase of books and DVDs during the Book Sale go towards supplementing our book budget at the library. Having these additional funds allows us to have the books that our patrons request, multiple copies of popular books to cut down on wait times, and the ability to quickly replace books that may be lost or damaged. Your donation will also help with the collection development of relevant community resources. A fun addition to this year’s sale includes the Friends of the Tolono Library who will also have a table where you can purchase pumpkins (that you can return, carved, during our Spooky & Booky Bash at the end of the month to be entered into their Pumpkin Carving Contest) and a form to order Curtis Orchard Donuts for a discounted price. Your donation to the Friends of the Library will go towards supplies for pumpkin painting during the Spook & Booky Bash, the DJ at our upcoming Winter Book Ball, and the eventual purchase of a book mobile.
As you wait patiently for the book sale to begin, stop by some of the other exciting programs we have going on this week: Our first meeting of the Cookbook Club will be Thursday, October 8 from 6:00-7:00. Each month we will make different recipes from a selected cookbook and then come together to share them! For October, we will be making recipes from Eat Like a Gilmore: Daily Cravings by Kristi Carlson. Place your request for a copy of the book, or stop in the library, peruse our book and copy down the recipe you want to bring. Bring your recipe to our meeting for everyone to enjoy! Registration is required for this event. We also have our normal Friday programming of story time for the toddlers and Youth Tinker Club for the elementary aged students. For a complete list of all our programs for October, check out our website or stop by the library and pick up a calendar.
