March came like a lion at the Tolono Public Library, and we aren’t slowing down anytime soon. In preparation for April, National Poetry Month, we will host a Poetry Slam Workshop at the library on Thursday, March 26 from 5:30-7:00PM. At the workshop, aspiring poets will learn exactly what Slam Poetry is, watch examples, and have an opportunity to work on poetry pieces of their own. They can then choose to perform these pieces at our Poetry Slam Competition on April 18 where all performers will receive a free drink from Travelin’ Toms Coffee Truck (which will be present the day of the event) and have an opportunity to win their own JBL speaker.
Saturday, March 28 is the long-awaited Groundbreaking of our Community Garden. Starting at 11:00AM behind the library, all volunteers are welcome to help till up the area we will be using for the plants and help us lay the beautiful bricks you have decorated for the pathway. This garden is for the whole community; everyone is welcome to be involved.
All month long, you have been voting for the book you want to win our March Book Madness Competition. Well, the results will be in this week, and we will reveal the winner at a party on Monday, March 30th from 4:30-5:30PM.
Madeline Wilson of Madeline Wilson Photography will be joining us on Tuesday evening, March 31 from 5:30-6:30 to share some photography basics so that you can learn to make the most of the photos you take on your own. Space is limited for this event, so be sure to register on our website or by calling the library.
Finally, our Senior Coffee Talk series continues Wednesday, April 1 at 9:00AM. All seniors in the area are welcome to join in coffee, snacks, and fellowship. Our speaker this month will be none other than our very own resident artist, Megan Rice, who will lead the seniors in creating their own watercolor masterpiece using COFFEE as at the medium.
