The Library will be closed Tuesday, July 4th for Independence Day.
A Message from our Community Engagement Coordinator, Claire Quin:
Dear Patrons,
This fall we are starting a Lego Club that meets every other Wednesday. Kids ages 6+ and their siblings are encouraged to come in and get creative! After they complete their Lego builds, we will display them for two weeks until the next Lego Club meeting. If you have Lego in good condition that you no longer use, please consider donating some of it to the Library for Lego Club!
Kids of all skill levels are welcome to attend Lego Club, whether they’ve built entire cities or have never played with Lego before. This is a great chance to get creative and spend some time with friends! Kids can either build independently or work as a team. The library will provide all the Lego—you bring the imagination! Each meeting we’ll have a new Lego challenge that kids can choose to complete, or they can just build their own designs.
Do you have lego you no longer use? We’re looking for all types of Lego and Lego pieces, including wheels, Lego people, gears, base plates, and everything else.
Starting in September, Lego Club will meet every other Wednesday from 3:30-5, rotating off with the Switch Crew. We hope to see you there!
Programs and Events This Week
Birds of a Feather / Thursday, June 29th, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Join the Champaign County Forest Preserve at the Library as we learn about some common bird species of Illinois, the basics of bird watching, and what makes birds special. We’ll also practice using binoculars and look for birds outside of the Library! Recommended Ages: 5 & up. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Coffee Talk / Wednesday, July 5th, 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Twice a month, seniors are welcome to visit the Library for coffee and light refreshments in the company of other seniors in the community! Recommended Ages: Senior.
Upcoming Programs and Events
Kids Craft Time: Dinosaur Terrariums / Thursday, July 6th, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. You don’t need to travel back to the Jurassic to adopt a pet dinosaur—you can get one at the Library! Choose a glow-in-the-dark dinosaur and design a terrarium for it to live in. Recommended Ages: 6-11.
Plant Swap / Friday, July 7th, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Stop by the Library to pot one of several varieties of easy-to-keep-alive houseplants to take home! Or, if you already have a green thumb, bring cuttings from your own plants to swap with neighbors. You’ll also be able to ask questions about plant care, propagation, and quick fixes for ailing houseplants. Recommended Ages: 18+.
